Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr. Warren E. Snead in July, 1970. The original structure was a small frame house which had been remodeled to consist of a waiting room, a small reception area, two exam rooms, a treatment room, a kennel area with five cages, a surgery room and a bathroom which doubled as an x-ray room. The entire building was approximately 900 square feet in size.
Twin Maples was originally a companion animal practice, serving cats, dogs and horses. Dr. Snead established this practice with a mission to provide the best quality healthcare for all patients. The practice grew rapidly and the horse practice was soon one of the largest in the Dayton area. By 1974, the small animal practice had grown to the extent that a single doctor could no longer manage both the small animal and equine services. It was then that Twin Maples began limiting its practice to small animals.
Dr. Craig Clouse joined the practice in 1982, and became a partner in 1985. Twin Maples became a three veterinarian practice in 1983. Our physical facility also grew again in 1992, when a 2000 square foot addition was constructed and the interior of the practice was extensively remodeled and updated. The expansion added much needed “elbow room” for four doctors and helped to keep us “state of the art”.
In 1994, Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital was honored as a Hill’s Pet Foods “Hospital of Excellence”. The clinic was also a finalist in the Dayton Area Small Business of the Year Award program.
In 1997, Twin Maples sought and received accreditation as an American Animal Hospital Association Member Hospital. AAHA requires voluntary rigorous evaluation of facilities and procedures based on over 900 standards. Only 15% of veterinary practices in the country achieve this distinction.
In 1998, our professional staff grew to five veterinarians. Dr. Kate Gardner joined us in June 2000, followed by Dr. Kimberly Burkhardt in August 2000. In October 2001, we were pleased to welcome Dr. Kay Allyson Deal, Diplomate ACVIM, Internal Medicine, to Twin Maples as our Internal Medicine specialist. Dr. Allyson has helped elevate the level of diagnostic testing and treatment that we can offer our clients, and area referring veterinarians. New services that Dr. Allyson offers include echocardiography, general ultrasonography, and oncology (cancer diagnosis and treatment).
In the summer of 2004, Dr. Sara Wells joined the professional staff of veterinarians practicing at Twin Maples. Dr. Ferguson joined the staff in July 2011, when Dr. Gardner went to part time status to start an animal acupuncture practice in Mason Ohio.
In addition to our full staff of highly skilled veterinarians, Twin Maples also employs seven registered veterinary nurses to help meet all of our patient’s healthcare needs. Dr. Clouse became the sole owner of the practice in January
